Southern Pecan Praline Cake

A warm, comforting dessert featuring a buttery yellow cake topped with a rich, nutty praline sauce and chopped pecans.

  • 1 box butter or yellow cake mix
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract (for topping)
  • 1/4 tsp salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13 baking dish.
  2. Combine the cake mix, eggs, vegetable oil, whole milk, and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract in a large bowl. Mix until smooth.
  3. Fold in 1 cup chopped pecans gently.
  4. Pour the batter into the prepared pan, spreading it evenly.
  5. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. Melt 1/2 cup butter in a saucepan over medium heat.
  7. Stir in brown sugar and heavy cream, and simmer for 3-4 minutes until thickened.
  8. Remove from heat and stir in remaining pecans, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, and salt.
  9. Pour the warm praline topping over the hot cake.
  10. Let the cake rest for 15-20 minutes before slicing.

Notes

Serve warm for the best texture contrast between the soft cake and gooey topping. Store in an airtight container for up to 5 days.
