  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar (for sprinkling)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Beat the softened butter and 1 cup granulated sugar together until light and fluffy, about 2 to 3 minutes.
  3. Add the egg and vanilla extract, mixing until smooth and fully incorporated.
  4. Pour in the buttermilk and mix until uniform.
  5. Whisk together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt in a separate bowl.
  6. Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until a soft dough forms.
  7. Scoop 1.5 tablespoon portions of dough, roll into balls, and place on the prepared baking sheet about 2 inches apart.
  8. Flatten each dough ball slightly and sprinkle with the reserved 1/4 cup granulated sugar.
  9. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, until the edges are lightly golden and centers remain soft.
  10. Cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a cooling rack.
