Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 and 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 Tablespoon aluminum-free baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cubed and very cold
  • 1 cup + 2 Tablespoons cold buttermilk, divided
  • 2 teaspoons honey
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 2 Tablespoons unsalted butter, melted (for topping)
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder (for topping)
  • 1 teaspoon dried or fresh chopped parsley (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (218°C).
  2. Combine the flour, baking powder, baking soda, garlic powder, and salt in a bowl or food processor. Mix until well combined.
  3. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

  5. Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and pour in 1 cup of buttermilk and the honey. Gently combine until just incorporated.
  6. Knead the dough gently for about 30 seconds and shape it into a rectangle, then fold it into thirds. Repeat this folding process three times.
  7. Cut the dough into circles using a biscuit cutter and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  8. Brush the tops of the biscuits with the remaining 2 tablespoons of buttermilk.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven for 18-22 minutes or until golden brown.
  10. Mix the melted butter, garlic powder, and parsley in a bowl and brush over the baked biscuits.
