Yellow Birthday Cake with Chocolate Frosting

A classic yellow birthday cake with rich chocolate frosting, perfect for celebrations.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup milk
  • 3 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder (for frosting)
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened (for frosting)
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • ½ cup heavy cream

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. Cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add this dry mixture to the creamed mixture, alternating with the milk.
  5. Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pans and smooth the tops.
  6. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  7. Allow cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.
  8. For the frosting, beat together softened butter and cocoa powder until smooth.
  9. Gradually add powdered sugar and heavy cream, mixing until fluffy.
  10. Once cakes are completely cool, spread frosting between layers and frost the top and sides.
  11. Slice, serve, and enjoy!

Notes

Ensure your butter is at room temperature for easier mixing. Avoid overmixing to keep the cake light.
