Creamy Mozzarella Garlic Butter Chicken Bowties

This creamy mozzarella garlic butter chicken bowties recipe is comfort food at its finest with a rich, silky cream sauce and tender pieces of chicken.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1.5 lbs boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 4 tbsp butter, divided
  • 1 lb bowtie pasta
  • 4 cups heavy cream
  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese, plus more for topping
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. Cook the bowtie pasta according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside. Tip: Reserve a small cup of pasta water in case you want to loosen the sauce later.
  2. In a large skillet, melt 2 tbsp butter over medium heat. Add the bite-sized chicken pieces and cook, stirring occasionally, until no longer pink in the center and lightly browned. Remove the chicken from the skillet and set aside on a plate.
  3. In the same skillet, melt the remaining 2 tbsp butter over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté for 30 seconds, just until fragrant. Tip: Watch the garlic closely to avoid browning, which can cause bitterness.
  4. Pour in the heavy cream and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer. Stir in the softened cream cheese until it melts and the sauce is smooth and homogenous.
  5. Add the shredded mozzarella and grated Parmesan to the simmering sauce, stirring until the cheeses are completely melted and the sauce is creamy. Return the cooked chicken to the skillet.
  6. Add the cooked bowtie pasta to the skillet and toss everything gently to coat the pasta and chicken in the cheese sauce. If the sauce seems too thick, add a splash of the reserved pasta water to loosen it.
  7. Serve hot with extra mozzarella sprinkled on top if desired.

Notes

Refrigerate leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days. Freezing cream-based pasta is not recommended due to texture changes.
