Easter Bunny Button Cookies

  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Assorted pastel-colored buttons or candy-coated chocolates for decoration
  • Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined.
  4. Whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt in a separate bowl.
  5. Mix the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until a dough forms.
  6. Roll the dough into 1-inch balls and place on the baking sheet.
  7. Press five buttons onto each dough ball to create the bunny button look.
  8. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, until edges are lightly golden.
  9. Cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
  10. Dust with powdered sugar before serving if desired.

Notes

Use room temperature butter for smoother creaming. Store cooled cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 4 days.
