Chocolate Craving Cake

A rich and decadent cake made with cocoa and sour cream, perfect for satisfying any sweet tooth.

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ¾ teaspoon baking powder
  • ¾ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 large egg
  • ½ cup whole milk
  • ¼ cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • ½ cup warm water or brewed coffee
  • 1 cup milk chocolate chips
  • ½ cup sour cream

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease and flour a 9-inch cake pan to prevent sticking.
  3. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the dry ingredients: flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.
  4. In another bowl, combine the wet ingredients: egg, milk, vegetable oil, vanilla extract, and warm water or coffee. Mix until smooth.
  5. Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and stir gently until just combined. Avoid overmixing for a tender cake.
  6. Gently fold in the chocolate chips and sour cream until evenly distributed throughout the batter.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan, spreading it evenly.
  8. Bake for about 40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  9. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring it to a cooling rack to cool completely.

Notes

Use high-quality cocoa powder for a deeper chocolate flavor. Store leftover cake in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
